How to make your own Croc Charms – using Birdie Jean’s Planar Resins – Instructions

The key to making sturdy , beautiful croc charms is all about the GLUE that you use!

DIY croc charms using planar resins is a fun and creative way to add some personal flair to your crocs. Planar resins are small, flat shapes that can be molded into any design you can imagine. BirdieJean is a great place to find inexpensive planar resins to use for this project. Check out our full collection HERE.

The reason we sugget using planar resins, is because they’re different than the standard types of  pvc chamrs/flatbacks used traditionally, they’re more durable, you can get many more varieties and even different sizes. They’re smooth, they’re acrylic and laser cut.

It’s important to choose the right adhesive, because they have to stand up to a lot of wear and tear, and also, when you put them onto the croc when they’re finished, they need to be strong to hold up to the pressure of putting it in the croc hole.

There are 4 methods you can use to adhere the planar resin to the croc…..

1. You can glue the planar resins directly to the croc. (make sure you use the RIGHT KIND of adhesive so they don’t fall off… more on that ahead! I suggest either loctite super glue,  or gorilla glue super glue or you can use a UV resin glue that cures hard with a uv light)

2. You can use a croc charm button to adhere them to the croc (make sure you know the correct size you’ll need)

Just glue the planar resin to the flat part of the button- the rounded part goes into the hole on the croc.

3. You can use a brooch bar (pin) to attach them to the croc. ( I suggest these from A Cherry On Top)

Just glue the planar resin to the back / flat part of the pin back / brooch bar and this way they’re easily removable and you can change up your charms frequently.

4. The most detailed, but most artistic way it to  make your own using epoxy resin and a planar resin. This is the method I prefer, so here are those instructions:

To get started, you’ll need to gather some supplies. You’ll need flatback planar resins, a silicone mold, and resin epoxy. First, place the flatback croc charms into the silicone mold.  Next, mix together the epoxy resin according to the instructions on the package. Pour the mixed resin into the mold and let it set for a few minutes.

After the resin has set, it’s time to start decorating your charms! This is where the planar resins come in. You can choose from a variety of designs and colors to make your croc charms truly unique. Simply place the planar resins onto the surface of the resin in the mold and press down gently to secure them in place. Let the resin cure completely before removing the charms from the mold.

Once your charms are finished, you can attach them to your crocs using hot glue or another adhesive. Voila! You now have personalized croc charms that are sure to turn heads. And all thanks to the affordable planar resins available at birdiejean.com.
